Head-to-head

TalkPilot vs Otter.ai

Otter.ai is a note taker: it transcribes your meetings, often with a bot in the call, and writes the summary after. TalkPilot is a conversation coach that helps you while you talk, using your goal, your docs and lessons from past calls, with no bot. Practice with an AI first, get a recap after. Otter's live coaching is Enterprise only.

The verdict

Otter.ai is built to keep a record of every meeting; TalkPilot is built to make you a better communicator, with a coach that knows your context while the conversation is still happening, practice before it and a recap after.

Choose TalkPilot if

  • You want help during the call: your next line or question shows up when the other person finishes talking.
  • You want coaching built on your own context: your brief, your docs, lessons from past calls, your calendar and your CRM contact.
  • You want to get better over time: rehearse with an AI that plays the other person, get a score, and keep the lessons from each call in Memory.
  • Your team has a playbook: reps see the current stage, what is still left to cover, and your approved answer to an objection first.
  • You don't want a bot in the meeting: TalkPilot listens from your own device.
  • Your calls are in Spanish, or switch between English and Spanish: coaching follows the language of the call.
  • You want live coaching without an enterprise contract: it is on every plan, Free and Pro included.

Choose Otter.ai if

  • You mainly want notes: a transcript and summary for every meeting, with search and AI chat across all of them.
  • You want a notetaker that joins the meetings on your calendar automatically.
  • You need a CRM beyond HubSpot and Salesforce, like Microsoft Dynamics or Zoho.
  • Your meetings happen in French, German, Japanese or Chinese, which Otter transcribes.

Otter.ai calls itself an AI notetaker, and that is what most people use it for: a transcript, a summary and action items for every meeting, plus search across all of them. TalkPilot is built for a different job. It is a conversation coach, built on proven conversation methods to make you the best communicator you can be. It gives you extra thinking power at the moment the other person stops talking and you need to know what to say next, and it helps you get better from one call to the next.

We build TalkPilot, so read this as a vendor page. Everything we say about Otter comes from Otter's own site, checked on October 11, 2026, and the links are at the bottom of this page.

Help while you talk, not only notes after

Otter is built around the record of the meeting: a live transcript while people talk, then a summary, action items and an AI chat that answers questions about your meetings.

TalkPilot is built around the moment you have to answer. It listens from your own device and, when the other person finishes talking, shows your next line, a question to ask, or where to take the conversation. Tap Assist when you are stuck. Short cues like "Slow down" tell you how you are coming across. After the call you still get a one-line takeaway, action items, follow-up drafts and, if you want it, a Deep Dive on what went well and what to try next.

A coach that knows you

General advice does not help much in a real conversation, so TalkPilot works from your own context. With Pro, add your docs, notes and slides as PDF, TXT or MD files, and the coach reads them before and during the call. Each call can have a short brief. TalkPilot can use your calendar details and, when connected, your HubSpot or Salesforce contact before the call. Memory keeps lessons from your past calls plus notes you write, and the live coach reads them. You can also paste what ChatGPT or Claude already knows about you into your profile.

With TalkPilot Pro or Teams, you can also use TalkPilot inside Claude or ChatGPT to look through your calls and prepare for the next one.

What about Otter's Live Assist?

In July 2026 Otter added Live Assist: tip cards during the call that only you can see, based on your playbooks and past meetings, with call goals checked off as you go. Otter's pricing page lists it on the Enterprise plan only, which you buy through a demo. We have not tested it ourselves.

TalkPilot's live coaching is on every plan, Free included. TalkPilot Teams adds your company knowledge, your playbook on screen (the current stage and what is still left to cover), your approved answer to an objection before any other suggestion, and a warning when a rep starts to say something your rules forbid. TalkPilot Teams has custom pricing for each team, from 3 users with no maximum. Book a demo to get a quote.

Practice before, get better after

Before an important call, you can rehearse with an AI that plays the other person, like an interviewer, a buyer or your boss. Then you get a score out of 100, what worked and what to work on. You can also redo a past conversation or rehearse tomorrow's meeting from your calendar. We found no practice or roleplay on Otter's site.

After each real call, lessons go to Memory, so your coach keeps them for the next one, and Deep Dive shows what you did well, where you can grow and one move for next time.

For managers: coaching based on your own playbook

In the Command Center, every call is scored against your playbook: what was covered, how objections were handled, and any rule that was broken. A review queue shows the calls that need a look, and you can leave coaching comments and assign practice.

Team DNA reads transcripts of your best people and shows how they run a call, how they answer objections and the phrases they use. You can add what works to the team playbook. Otter's Enterprise plan has sales dashboards (objections, competitor mentions, sentiment), but scoring calls against your own playbook is not listed on its site.

Where TalkPilot is not the right fit

Good to know before you choose.

  • TalkPilot only listens when you start a session in a conversation you are part of. It does not join meetings on its own.
  • CRM logging covers HubSpot and Salesforce.

Frequently asked questions

Does Otter.ai coach you during a call?

Otter shows a live transcript on every plan. Its live coaching, called Live Assist, shows tip cards during the call, and Otter's pricing page lists it on the Enterprise plan only. TalkPilot's live coaching is on every plan, Free included.

Does TalkPilot send a bot to my meeting?

No. TalkPilot listens from your own device, and nothing joins the meeting. We don't record or store audio; only the transcript is saved, in your account. Otter's notetaker joins as a meeting guest, though its desktop app can also record without one.

Can TalkPilot use my own documents and notes?

Yes. With Pro, add your docs, notes and slides as PDF, TXT or MD files, and the coach reads them before and during the call. Each call can have a short brief, Memory keeps lessons from your past calls, and TalkPilot can use your calendar details and your HubSpot or Salesforce contact. You can also paste what ChatGPT or Claude already knows about you into your profile.

Can TalkPilot replace Otter?

If you used Otter for a recap and action items after your own calls, yes: TalkPilot gives you both, plus help during the call and practice before it. Your conversations stay in your Library. If you want a notetaker that joins every meeting on your calendar automatically, that is the job Otter is built for.

Does TalkPilot work in Spanish?

Yes. The app, live coaching, recaps and action items work in English and Spanish, and coaching follows the language of the call, even if it switches. You can also pick one language in Settings. Otter transcribes Spanish too.

How do the prices compare?

TalkPilot is free for 5 conversations a month, Pro is $20 a month, and Teams has custom pricing for each team, from 3 users with no maximum. Otter has a free plan and paid per-user plans, and its Enterprise plan, where live coaching sits, is priced through sales. Check otter.ai/pricing for current numbers.

Can I use both?

Yes. TalkPilot does not join the meeting, so it does not get in the way of Otter's notetaker. Some people keep Otter for meeting notes and use TalkPilot for the calls where what they say matters most.
